so let me get this straight.

yuo wanna tie up that much money for about 9 months to get around 3:2 - or less?

even if you win this bet - the books could care less - for they have your money for that long.

i, too, like the lakers to win it all. but at those odds - and for as long as you'd have your money tied up - it's not the best bet you can make.

I had huge money on the Lakers last year (biggest bet of my life) and they broke my heart. I still have nightmares about the Robert Horry shot against the Spurs.

Last offseason they were totally focused on getting the fourth straight title. This offseason with the Kobe fiasco has been one big distraction.

Peyton does make them better at PG defensively. Fish should be great coming off the bench. Fish just played too many minutes last year and takes a beating. He wasn't quick enough to deal with Parker against the Spurs.

However, I'm not a Malone fan. I don't think he can defend Tim Duncan, KG, or Chris Webber any better than Horry / Madsen did. Also, I think the team loses alot of energy that Madsen would bring when he'd come in.

Also, Rick Fox is going to miss a significant part of the year.

Phil Jackson will drive ya friggin crazy too. His rotation will be the same every stinkin night no matter what's happening on the floor.

Until the Kobe case is cleared up, and he's for sure gonna play the whole year --- I'd wait. There's no way they can win without him.

Good luck,

I would never tie up my money like that for an entire season...plus, the Lakers will break your heart. Sure they look good on paper, but they're one injury or one conviction away from a second round exit.

A much better bet is the Nets at 15/1 to win it all. You gotta believe someday they'll break thru and if Mourning holds up all season, MAN do I like their chances!!!!!

You would do better betting them every round of the playoffs for the $40,000 + winnings. You will get much better than + 130 that way.

And to think there are fools out there that are laying odds and taking the Lakers. Lakers added a lot of flash with the big names, but did they really get better? I don't think they improved themselves all that much as Fisher and Horry were role players that knew their role. Will Payton stand back and bury those dagger treys? Will Mailman be happy when its a minute to go and Kobe wants the ball?

It wasn't just the Spurs that they couldn't handle, everyone at the top is getting awfully good in the West. I mean this Kings team, the Mavs, the Spurs, even the teams behind them are pretty good in the Suns and Wolves. I think a lot of these teams could have beaten the last couple editions of the Bulls championship teams. To get close to even money when they have to overcome all these land mines just doesn't strike me as wise.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> Nothing's a bad bet if it cashes<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

you couldn't be more wrong if you wanted to. ANYTIME you bet a "bad line" i don't care if it cashes - or not - you made a bad bet. why do i say that? simple - make enough bets on bad lines and when those bets lose - you no longer have any money to make any kind of bets at all. say you bet pedro -200 over mussina in a game at yankee stadium - and you win. yes - the bet cashed - so you made a bet that paid off - but in reality this would be a bad bet - for odds are the line was as much as $.50 too high. yes - you got away with it this time - but do it again - and have pedro (or more likely - that awful bullpen) lose the game and you are cursing all over the place. i know this will sound stupid - but i would rather lose a bet placed on a good line than win a bet placed on a bad line - for in the long run - i will be more profitable.

the lakers +130/+140 to win it all is an AWFUL bet! you tie up that much money for that long - meaning you can't use it at all. and as others have pointed out - if shaq goes down and misses the playoffs - you are f****d!

The lakers are all about shack.

The supporting cast is important, don't get me wrong, but it was no fluke that they lost the year the player every team does not want to face came back in terrible shape. Even so, he's still among th4e bes 5 players in the league, but not playing at a historically high level (remember 200-2001? WOW) did put a spotlight on the weaknesses in his teammantes.

If he comes back lean and mean it is over. Even without the Dream Team around him.

I do agree with the guys here, if you want to bet 40k just bet it every round of the playoffs and let it ride between rounds. The return will be huge compared to what you can make right now just on future bets.

I guess I better defend my comment "nothings a bad bet if it cashes". Alot of future money's been made the last twelve years on the Chicago Bulls (6 titles) , Detroit Red Wings (3 titles) , LA Lakers (3 titles), and the New York Yankees (4 titles). All four of these teams would have been considered "bad bets" by the conditions you all list. As far as the book holding on to your money, obviously it does hurt other wagering if you play offshore. I normally try to make my futures plays in Vegas so I can keep my offshore stake free.

I would agree betting huge favorite money lines during meaningless regular season games in any sport is going to beat you in the long run.

Good Luck, Ballys
